159,000 ENTRIES FOR THE MAGNERS OFFICIAL TASTE TESTER ROLE
18th September 2009: There has been an outstanding 159,343 applications from cider-loving hopefuls for the position as Magners’ first Official Taste Tester. The Tipperary-based cider producers are overwhelmed by the response to the position – but don’t worry if you haven’t yet applied as the search is still underway in pubs and online.
Entries close at 11pm on 17th October. The winner will be awarded the title, which he or she will be able to keep for the rest of their life, as well as a one off wage of £50,000 to fulfil their role.
Claire Kennedy, Magners Original said: “We are really pleased with the response so far. Almost 160,000 entries is phenomenal. It’s not surprising though as the role as Magners Official Taste Tester is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity’’.
Magners Official Taste Tester will be an honorary position. Its purpose is to uphold the exacting standards of quality and taste perfected over the years, and expected of Magners drinkers worldwide. The winner will be flown to Clonmel in Co. Tipperary, Ireland – the home of Magners. He or she will inspect the 2009 apple harvest, and sample the year’s fresh apple juice that will eventually be fermented and matured into Magners Original Cider. He or she will play an important role as the timing of the visit is crucial. The annual apple harvest comes to a close in November and the Official Taste Tester will arrive at the pressing stage – the moment the 17 varieties of apples are pressed to capture the fresh juice. He or she will taste the first juice before it is locked away for up to two years maturation.
The Magners Official Taste Tester will also win a series of other benefits. These include:
• The Official Taste Tester bench, inscribed and situated in the orchards.
• An apple tree planted in their honour
• Specially commissioned Official Taste Tester stone.
• Inscribed Magners cider tankard.
• A year’s supply of Magners Original Cider.
